New York--Next week, the latest Trump to put her name on a line of jewelry will debut her collection, but instead of a chic boutique unveiling or an exclusive penthouse viewing party, look for this release in a living room near you.
On April 30, businesswoman and supermodel Melania Trump, wife of billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump, will launch "Melania Timepieces and Fashion Jewelry," live on home shopping network QVC. The line of costume jewelry and watches will be priced between $40 and $300. It's a departure from the fine jewelry line by stepdaughter Ivanka Trump, which first launched at her swank Madison Avenue store several years ago and is now being sold wholesale to high-end jewelers around the country. But for Melania Trump, whose modeling resume includes work for high-end diamond brand A. Link, the decision to go for fashion jewelry over fine was an easy one. She wanted to give women across the country the chance to buy a few pieces and feel elegant, without spending thousands. "I just wanted to offer women across the country affordable, luxury jewelry," Trump said in an interview with National Jeweler. "Everybody, we are all aware of the economic climate. These pieces, timepieces and jewelry, are very affordable." Within the Melania line there are three distinct collections inspired by the trio of cities the Slovenian-born stunner calls home: New York; Palm Beach, Fla.; and Paris. The pieces in each collection are a nod to what each of these cities evokes for Trump who holds a design and architecture degree from the University in Slovenia. Designs in the "New York" collection are all about business and work, while "Palm Beach" represents "playtime," a place to relax and have fun with family and friends, Trump said. The pieces that are part of the Paris collection are all about glamour, a nod to that's city's flair for fashion. Ask Trump for the design she admires above all others, though, and she simply isn't able to play favorites. "They're all coming from me, from my heart, from my soul," she said. "I designed them. They're all my favorite." A few pieces of note include the New York collection's Fifth Avenue watch-which Trump said is the "piece for women to own" because of its versatility--and the faux ruby ring from the Paris-themed collection. On April 30 at 9 p.m., Trump will be live on the air on QVC, to answer questions and chat with customers who call in to inquire about the line. After that, the future of Melania Timepieces and Fashion Jewelry is anybody's guess. The line will be available on QVC as long as supplies last. Trump said it's unknown at this time if more pieces will be made after these sell out and the line continued. "For the future, we don't know yet," she said. |
